What This Connector Is — TE MTA-156 IDC Receptacle
The TE 3-644371-3 is a 3-circuit MTA-156 receptacle designed for insulation-displacement termination (IDC) of 22 AWG discrete or ribbon cable. The 0.156" (3.96mm) pitch is the standard spacing for the MTA-156 series, matching the pin header on the board. This is a free-hanging, single-row housing with a closed end — the wire stops at the back wall so you get consistent insertion depth every time. The locking ramp on top grabs the header latch and holds against cable strain; you hear it click when it seats.
IDC termination pierces the wire insulation as the cover is pressed down — no separate crimp terminal or tool. The 22 AWG wire gauge is the only size listed for this variant.
Contact Finish — Thick Tin for Low-Cycle Duty
Mating Connector — What It Plugs Into
A common mating header is TE 644456-3 (straight, tin) or 644461-3 (right-angle, tin). No other series shares this latch geometry — don't try to force it into a non-MTA-156 header.
