0.156" Pitch, 6-Position IDC Receptacle — MTA-156
The TE Connectivity MTA-156 3-644662-6 is a 6-position, single-row receptacle from the MTA-156 series, designed for mass-termination of discrete or ribbon cable using IDC (Insulation Displacement Contact) technology. It accepts 22 AWG wire and terminates without stripping, making it a fast, repeatable option for harness builds. The red housing carries a closed-end design and a polarizing key, so it only mates one way with the matching header, preventing pin damage from a reversed hookup. This is a field-service-friendly connector: you can re-pin it on site with the right IDC hand tool, and the locking latch gives audible feedback that the pair is fully seated.
The IDC termination requires a manual or pneumatic press — the TE 59803-1 hand tool or the 59804-1 bench press are the standard options. No wire stripping is needed; the insulation is displaced as the contact is pressed into the housing channel. For a board-mounted connection, pair it with a vertical or right-angle MTA-156 header soldered to the PCB.
