IDC termination accepts 18 AWG discrete wire or ribbon cable — the contact pierces the insulation and makes gas-tight connection without stripping or crimping. This speeds harness assembly in medium-to-high volume production. The closed-end housing prevents wire strands from exiting the back of the connector, which is useful when the harness routes into a confined space.
