16-Position IDC Receptacle for 24 AWG Harnesses
The TE Connectivity MTA-100 4-640441-6 is a 16-position IDC receptacle built for 24 AWG discrete or ribbon cable. The white housing and closed-end design keep the back of the connector sealed against stray strands or debris.
Tin Plating Thick Enough for the Field
That thickness matters when the connector lives inside a cabinet or on a panel where humidity cycles are a fact of life. Tin-on-tin contacts in an IDC termination don't fret the way gold-on-tin does, so the connection stays stable over thermal swings.
Free-Hanging Right-Angle Mount — Cable Exit Parallel to Board
The mounting type is free-hanging (in-line) and right-angle. It's the common arrangement for ribbon cable harnesses that run along a chassis wall or between stacked boards. No additional strain relief hardware is needed for light-duty routing — the IDC termination and locking ramp handle the basic retention.
16 Positions vs 22 AWG Sibling
The difference is wire gauge: the 4-640440-6 accepts 22 AWG, while the 4-640441-6 is sized for 24 AWG. If your harness is built with 24 AWG discrete wire, this is the correct part; the 22 AWG sibling will not terminate 24 AWG reliably. For 17- or 18-position harnesses, the 4-640440-7 and 4-640440-8 cover those counts at 22 AWG.
