16-Position IDC Receptacle for Discrete or Ribbon Cable
The TE MTA-100 4-643813-6 is a 16-position IDC receptacle designed for mass-termination of 22 AWG discrete or ribbon cable. It uses the 0.100" (2.54mm) pitch standard across the MTA-100 family, so the board footprint matches any other 16-position header in the series. The closed-end housing prevents the ribbon cable from overshooting the last contact position — a detail that saves rework time on the assembly line.
Termination and Mounting
Termination is IDC — the cable is pressed into the slot, displacing insulation to make contact with the tin-plated female socket. No crimp tool or wire stripping is needed; a simple press tool seats the cable in one stroke. The free-hanging, right-angle mounting orientation allows the receptacle to exit the board edge parallel to the PCB plane, which is useful in tight enclosures where a straight vertical exit would conflict with a cover or adjacent module.
Mating and Compatibility
The red housing colour provides a quick visual check on the assembly line that the correct 16-position part is being used, versus a 10- or 14-position variant in the same series.
Lifecycle and Compliance
No last-time-buy or phase-out notice is on record.
