The IDC termination accepts 22 AWG discrete wire or ribbon cable — the insulation is displaced by the tin-plated slot, so no stripping or crimping is needed. The 80.0 µ" (2.03 µm) tin contact finish is heavy enough to handle the cold-flow displacement without exposing the base metal, but tin limits mating cycles compared to gold. The closed-end feature means the plug body has a solid wall at the back — no open slot for the cable to push through.
