The TE AMPMODU MTE 5-103951-3 is a 4-position IDC plug designed for mass-termination to 22-26 AWG ribbon cable. The single-row, free-hanging body has a closed end, so the ribbon cable inserts fully and the contacts pierce the insulation in one press operation.
Wiring and Termination — IDC Without a Crimp Tool
This plug uses insulation-displacement contacts (IDC), so there is no crimp terminal to buy and no separate crimp tool to qualify. The closed-end design means the cable stops at the back wall, ensuring consistent strip length and full contact engagement across all 4 positions. Because the connector is free-hanging (in-line), it does not need a PCB footprint — it terminates the cable and mates directly to a board-mounted header. The black housing is keyed by the closed end and the single-row geometry, so it cannot be reversed on the cable. For harness assembly, the IDC termination is faster than individual crimp-and-insert, but requires a simple press tool (not included).
