The TE Connectivity AMPMODU MTE 5-103961-4 is a 5-position, single-row IDC receptacle designed for mass-termination of discrete or ribbon cable. The closed-end housing prevents the socket contacts from being pushed out the back during wire insertion or cable strain — a detail that matters when the harness is built on a bench and then routed into a tight enclosure. For a harness that gets disconnected during test, calibration, or field service, the gold contacts justify the price premium over a tin alternative. This is the same latching mechanism used across the MTE family, so the 5-103961-4 is a drop-in replacement for any 5-position MTE receptacle in an existing harness design.
The specified wire range is 26-30 AWG, which covers the common ribbon cable gauges used in internal signal harnesses. A 28 AWG ribbon cable is the sweet spot: the IDC slot geometry is optimized for that conductor diameter, and the insulation thickness on standard 28 AWG ribbon matches the slot width. Going to 26 AWG requires a slightly larger slot force, but the contact beam still captures the conductor reliably. At 30 AWG, the conductor is small enough that the slot may not displace enough insulation to guarantee a gas-tight joint — bench-test a sample before committing a production run. The connector accepts both discrete wires and ribbon cable, which makes it flexible for harness builds. For discrete wires, each conductor is inserted individually into its IDC slot — a hand tool or a simple arbor press works. For ribbon cable, the whole 5-conductor ribbon is loaded into a mass-termination tool that presses all five slots simultaneously. The closed-end housing acts as a backstop during the press operation, preventing the contacts from being pushed out of the cavity.
This receptacle mates with the AMPMODU MTE 5-position shrouded or unshrouded header (base product number 103956 or 103960 series). There is no board lock or screw flange — the latch is the only retention, and it is sufficient for the signal currents this connector carries. The black color of the housing is the standard AMPMODU MTE color for receptacles in this series.
