The TE Connectivity 5-104892-4 is a 40-position receptacle from the AMPMODU 50/50 Grid series, designed for mass-termination to 28 AWG ribbon cable via IDC contacts. It uses a 0.050" (1.27 mm) pitch on two rows with the same 0.050" row spacing — a tight grid that matches standard 40-conductor ribbon cable.
IDC Termination — No Crimp, No Rework
The 5-104892-4 uses insulation displacement contacts (IDC), meaning the 28 AWG ribbon cable is pressed onto fork-shaped contacts that pierce the insulation — no wire stripping or individual crimp terminals. This is a production-speed method for harness builders: one press operation terminates all 40 conductors simultaneously. The trade-off is that IDC is a permanent termination — there is no rework path if a wire is misaligned. The connector is supplied in a Tube for handling through the press fixture.
This receptacle mates with the matching AMPMODU 50/50 Grid shrouded header (same 0.050" pitch, 40 positions, two rows). The 30 µ" gold on the receptacle contacts pairs with the header's gold plating to maintain contact resistance below 30 mΩ over 200+ mating cycles.
