50-Position IDC Receptacle for 28 AWG Ribbon Cable
The TE Connectivity 5-104893-5 is a 50-position receptacle in the AMPMODU 50/50 Grid series, designed for mass-termination to 28 AWG ribbon cable via IDC contacts. The closed-end housing prevents stubbing during cable insertion and keeps the contacts aligned.
IDC termination is a one-step press operation — the ribbon cable is laid across the open contacts and the cover is pressed down, slicing through the insulation to make contact with each conductor. The 28 AWG wire gauge is fixed; the connector is not compatible with other gauges. The black housing is a single piece with a closed end, so the cable stops at a defined depth.
This receptacle mates with the matching AMPMODU 50/50 Grid header — a 50-position, 0.050" pitch, dual-row pin header. The gold-to-gold contact interface is rated for the same 30.0µin plating on the header side, giving a consistent mating cycle life.
