RJ45 IDC Plug for Stranded Round Cable
The translucent clear polycarbonate housing lets you visually confirm each conductor is fully seated in its slot before the cover is closed. Rated for Cat5 performance, this plug is suited for 100 MHz Ethernet applications (10/100BASE-T) in structured cabling, industrial control panels, and test equipment where a field-installable, no-solder termination is required. The plug is unshielded, so it is intended for UTP (unshielded twisted pair) cable runs. For shielded environments, a shielded RJ45 plug and jack would be needed to maintain the ground path through the connector.
Cat5 Rating and Cable Compatibility
The Cat5 rating means the plug meets the performance requirements for 100 MHz operation — sufficient for 10BASE-T and 100BASE-TX Ethernet. It is not rated for Cat5e or Cat6 frequencies (100 MHz+ with tighter crosstalk limits), so it should not be specified for Gigabit Ethernet (1000BASE-T) or higher-speed networks where the cable and connector pair must meet Cat5e or Cat6 channel specifications. The 26-28 AWG stranded wire range matches the solid or stranded conductors found in typical Cat5 patch cables. Stranded wire is more flexible for patch cords; solid wire is typical for horizontal runs terminated in a patch panel. The IDC slot geometry is designed for the stranded wire diameter within this gauge range.
