MTA-156 IDC Receptacle, 20 Position — 5-643819-0
The TE Connectivity MTA-156 5-643819-0 is a 20-position, single-row IDC receptacle with a 0.156" (3.96mm) pitch, designed for mass-termination of 22 AWG discrete or ribbon cable. A closed end stops the IDC slot from over-traveling off the cable, and the polarizing key forces correct pin-one orientation every press.
Termination and Wire Compatibility
It accepts both discrete wires and ribbon cable, but the wire gauge is fixed at 22 AWG; the IDC slot dimensions are sized for that conductor diameter. For ribbon cable, the 0.156" pitch must match the ribbon conductor spacing exactly — a 0.156" ribbon centers each conductor over its IDC slot. A 0.100" ribbon at this pitch would bite between conductors and scrap the assembly.
When fully seated, the ramp snaps over the header latch, providing positive retention that resists vibration better than a plain friction fit. The polarizing key on the closed end prevents reverse mating — the header's keyway must align, or the connector won't seat. For field service, the ramp releases with a flat-blade screwdriver prying it outward, allowing the receptacle to be unmated without damaging the contacts.
It is ROHS3 compliant. No official cross-reference or second-source replacement is listed by TE, so the BOM line should reference this exact TE order code.
