The beryllium copper contact material provides the spring force needed to maintain consistent normal force across that diameter spread, so a 0.014" pin seats as securely as a 0.026" one without permanent deformation. The socket depth is 0.165" (4.19mm) with an overall length of 0.178" (4.52mm) — the pin insertion depth is just under the overall length, so the pin tip stops short of the solder tail end. That matters when stacking multiple sockets on a board: the pin protrusion below the socket is minimal, keeping the z-height predictable.
