What This Power Tap Does on Your PCB
The TE Connectivity 5055558-7 is a 10-pin screw terminal power tap — a PCB-mounted power distribution point that accepts a 6-32 screw (not included) on each terminal. The press-fit termination pushes into plated through-holes without solder, which makes it rework-friendly in backplane or power-distribution assemblies where you might need to swap a damaged tap without desoldering a whole board.
Mounting and Termination — Press-Fit, No Solder
That's a real advantage in high-reliability backplane work where thermal cycling can crack a solder fillet. The through-hole mounting gives the power tap a solid mechanical anchor against the shear force of a tightened screw terminal. Just make sure your PCB has the correct hole size for the press-fit pin; the datasheet drawing shows the recommended finished hole diameter.
Screw Terminal — Your Own 6-32 Hardware
Each of the 10 positions uses a 6-32 screw to clamp the wire or bus bar. The screw is not included — you supply your own 6-32 pan-head or set screw, typically with a captive washer for vibration resistance. The tin-plated copper alloy contact provides adequate conductivity for the 25 A rating; tin works fine here because this is a low-mating-cycle power termination, not a signal connector that gets plugged and unplugged repeatedly. For field-service work, you can replace a damaged terminal by pressing out the old one and pressing in a new 5055558-7 — one contact at a time.
