Panel-Mount IDC Plug for 34-Conductor Ribbon Cable
The TE AMP-Latch 5111448-8 is a 34-position IDC plug designed for mass-termination of 26-28 AWG ribbon cable. The panel-mount body with feed-through feature lets the ribbon cable pass through a cutout, keeping the connector fixed to the enclosure wall while the cable routes to the backplane or drive bay. The IDC termination eliminates wire stripping and crimping: the ribbon cable is pressed onto insulation-displacement forks in one operation, a fast and repeatable assembly method for high-volume harness builds.
This plug mates with the AMP-Latch 34-position receptacle (TE 1-226733-4 is the 17-position variant — for 34 positions, look for the 34-circuit receptacle in the same series). The dual-row 0.100" pitch and IDC termination are mirrored on the receptacle side, so the full ribbon cable assembly terminates both ends with the same tooling. The plug's panel-mount feature means it stays on the enclosure while the receptacle side connects to the header on the PCB — a clean bulkhead interface for removable drive bays or modular card cages. No strain relief is listed in the spec — for applications with cable pull risk, a separate strain-relief clamp or cable tie anchor point should be added at the panel exit.
