96-Position DIN Receptacle for Backplane Assembly
The TE Connectivity 5148292-5 is a 96-position DIN 41612 receptacle from the Eurocard series, built for backplane and card-cage interconnect in industrial and telecom equipment. Press-fit is the dominant termination for high-reliability backplanes because it survives rework cycles and avoids thermal stress on the board.
Press-Fit Termination and Right-Angle Mounting
Press-fit termination eliminates the solder joint — the compliant pin cold-welds to the barrel wall. That means no wicking, no voids, and no reflow-related failures. For a 96-position connector on a multilayer backplane, press-fit is the standard choice because it allows the board to be assembled without the thermal cycle that can warp a large panel or crack vias. The through-hole, right-angle mounting places the connector body flush against the board edge. The mating header approaches from above, perpendicular to the PCB, which is the geometry used in standard Eurocard subracks where the daughtercard slides into a guide rail and the DIN connector mates as the card seats into the backplane.
