The TE Connectivity 5205729-1 is a hinged backshell from the AMPLIMITE HD-20 series, designed to fit standard 9-position D-sub connectors as well as HD-15 shells. It gives you two cable exit options — 45° and 180° — so you can route the round cable bundle in the direction that fits your enclosure layout without swapping parts. The black polypropylene body keeps weight down and won't corrode, and the integrated strain relief and assembly hardware mean you don't have to track down separate jack screws or cable clamps.
Cable Exit and Routing Flexibility
Dual-exit backshells like this one save a BOM line when the harness has to bend tight against a panel. The 45° exit clears low-profile enclosures where a straight 180° pull would hit the wall; the 180° exit is the standard inline route. Both exits accept round cable, and the hinged clamshell design lets you dress the wires before snapping it shut — no threading the whole bundle through a one-piece boot.
What Fits and What's Included
This backshell mates with any standard 9-position D-sub connector that uses shell size E — that covers the vast majority of 9-position D-sub connectors on the market, plus the HD-15 high-density variant. The shell size E compatibility is the key dimension check; if your connector uses a different shell size, this backshell won't latch. The package includes the assembly hardware (typically the jackscrews and washers) and the strain relief clamp, so you're not hunting for loose parts at the bench.
It's also RoHS compliant per current standards, so it clears the materials restriction check for EU-market equipment.
