What This Jackscrew Fits and Why It Matters
The TE Connectivity AMPLIMITE 5205980-4 is a D-sub screw retainer kit — a slotted jackscrew with a 4-40 thread, designed to secure the male and female halves of an AMPLIMITE HDE or HDP series D-sub connector. The 4-40 thread is the standard size for the screw-lock posts on these connectors; it matches the threaded inserts in the mating receptacle shell. The included clip holds the screw captive in the connector body, so it doesn't drop out during installation or servicing. The 0.220" length below the head gives enough thread engagement for panel thicknesses typical of D-sub backshells and bulkhead mounts — about 3/16" to 1/4" panel stock. If your panel is thicker than that, the screw won't bottom out properly, and the connector pair won't cinch tight. For standard-density D-subs, this is the right reach.
Installation Note: Slotted Drive, Clip Retention
The slotted head takes a flat-blade screwdriver — no Phillips or Torx required. The clip snaps into a groove on the screw shank and seats against the connector shell, keeping the screw captive. When you mate the D-sub pair, the jackscrew threads into the mating half's threaded insert. Torque it snug — hand-tight with a screwdriver is enough. A loose jackscrew lets the connector halves separate under cable strain, which opens the shield ground and can break signal continuity.
