RF Interconnect Field Note
The TE Connectivity 5227161-3 is a BNC jack, female socket, built for 50 Ohm systems and rated to 4 GHz. The bayonet lock gives a quick quarter-turn mate — standard for test equipment, panel feedthroughs, and instrumentation racks where the connector sees regular connect/disconnect duty. The centre contact is gold-plated phosphor bronze, matched to a Polymethylpentene (PMP) dielectric, good for 500 mating cycles before the contact resistance drifts outside the BNC-class envelope.
Mounting and Termination
Panel-mount through a bulkhead with a front-side nut, and the signal pin terminates via a right-angle solder tail to the PCB. The zinc body with nickel finish handles the ground reference; the shield is soldered to the board ground plane. The board guide and isolated features help align the connector during assembly and keep the shell from shorting to nearby traces.
