Pin diameter range and board fit
The 5380635-5: This socket accepts pins from 0.018" to 0.040" (0.46mm to 1.02mm) diameter — a wide capture range that covers common component leads, test pins, and header posts. The board thickness requirement is 0.156" (3.96mm); the mounting hole diameter should be drilled between 0.086" and 0.089" (2.18mm to 2.26mm) for a press-in fit that holds the socket in place during soldering. The socket depth of 0.145" (3.68mm) and overall length of 0.236" (6.00mm) give a low profile above the board — useful when clearance to an adjacent board or cover is tight.
Contact material and finish for the duty cycle
Insertion force is measured at 0.12N to 0.34N — low enough to avoid bending fine pins during manual assembly, but high enough to ensure a gas-tight interface after soldering.
