The 50 Ohm impedance is held through the dielectric — polymethylpentene (PMP) — which keeps the insertion loss flat across the 4 GHz bandwidth. For a BNC, 4 GHz is the practical ceiling before the mode transition degrades the return loss; this jack stays within a VSWR that works for sub-6 GHz lab gear, base station monitoring ports, and low-power RF heads. The 500 V rating gives headroom for the DC bias that sometimes rides the center conductor in active antenna feeds.
Mounting and construction
Through-hole right-angle mounting means the jack sits flush to the board edge, with the center pin and four shield tabs soldered into plated holes. The zinc body carries a nickel finish — standard for BNCs that live inside an enclosure where corrosion resistance is secondary to solderability. The silver housing color is the bare nickel showing through; no paint or plating overlay. Shield termination is solder, not a crimp ferrule, so the ground connection is permanent once the board goes through wave or hand solder.
