The free-hanging (in-line) mounting and integral bail lock give the mated pair positive retention against cable pull, which matters when the harness routes through a cabinet or a rack where vibration or snagging is a risk. This is a signal-density interconnect for parallel data buses, printer cables, or any application where a 14-conductor ribbon needs a reliable, latch-locked termination.
Mating and Termination — What to Match
The IDC termination is designed for.085-inch pitch ribbon cable — the insulation displacement slots pierce the conductor insulation in one press stroke, so the cable pitch has to match the connector pitch exactly; a pitch mismatch will slice between conductors instead of onto them. Watch pin-one every press: the connector body is keyed, but the ribbon orientation at the fixture determines which side lands on pin one. The bail lock engages over the receptacle shell to hold the pair together — strain relief is built into the latch, so you don't need a separate backshell for basic pull protection.
