What This 50-Position CHAMP .085 Receptacle Does on the Harness
IDC Termination and Cable Assembly Fit
For the harness shop, this means a CHAMP.085 tool and a straight ribbon cable feed are the line requirements; no loose contacts or hand-loading. The free-hanging mount keeps the connector as a cable-end termination, not a board-mounted header, so the mating half is a CHAMP.085 plug or header with the same 50-position, 2-row layout.
Latch Lock Retention vs. Screw-Lock Alternatives
The integral latch lock on this receptacle replaces the 4-40 threaded inserts found on some CHAMP.085 housings. For a cable assembly that is frequently mated and unmated in the field, the latch speeds the connection — no screwdriver needed. The trade-off is that the latch provides less axial clamping force than a tightened jack-screw, so in high-vibration environments the screw-lock variant (with the 4-40 flange feature) may be preferred.
