6p4c Right-Angle Jack for Voice and Analog Lines
The TE Connectivity 5555165-2 is a 6p4c (RJ11, RJ14) modular jack — the four centre positions wired, the outer two positions unused. It is a right-angle, through-hole mount jack intended for PCB edge placement where the cable enters parallel to the board. The unshielded construction and Cat3 rating limit it to 16 MHz voice and analog signals; it is not suited for Ethernet data.
Board Lock and Right-Angle Retention
The board lock feature — two plastic or metal posts that snap into plated through-holes — anchors the jack to the board before soldering and shares the mechanical load with the solder joints. Without the board lock, repeated cable cycling can crack the solder connections on the signal pins.
Cat3 Duty and Unshielded Construction
The Cat3 rating means this jack is verified for 16 MHz signal paths — adequate for POTS telephone lines, RS-232 extensions, and low-speed analog signalling. The unshielded plastic housing (PBT/polyester) provides no EMI containment, so it is not a candidate for environments with radiated noise or for data rates above 10 Mbps. For shielded or higher-category applications, look to the shielded variants in the same 5555165 series.
