Pin diameter range and contact design
The 5645946-2: This socket accepts pin diameters from 0.012" to 0.021" (0.30mm to 0.53mm) — that covers common header pins, component leads, and test points in that gauge range. The beryllium copper contact maintains consistent normal force across the full diameter spread, so a 0.012" pin seats as firmly as a 0.021" one.
Solder termination with no tail — the socket body sits flush on the board after soldering, so the overall height above the PCB is just the socket depth. The mounting hole diameter range is 0.043" to 0.046" (1.09mm to 1.17mm), and the socket accommodates board thicknesses from 0.031" to 0.093" (0.79mm to 2.36mm). Socket depth runs 0.100" to 0.170" (2.54mm to 4.32mm) depending on how far the pin inserts — the deeper the pin, the more contact beam engagement. The flange diameter is 0.066" (1.68mm), and the overall length is 0.184" (4.67mm).
The housing and contact materials are selected to survive thermal cycling across that span without cracking or loss of retention.
