The 0.050" (1.27 mm) pitch and dual-readout contacts give it a compact footprint for dense routing on the motherboard, while the staggered solder tails break out to the through-hole vias without shorting adjacent traces.
The 46 positions are arranged in two rows with a dual readout — the connector reads both edges of the card. The brown thermoplastic insulator includes an integrated board guide that aligns the card during insertion.
Through-hole mounting with staggered solder tails — the offset rows let the PCB designer route traces between the via pads on inner layers, which is necessary at the 0.050" pitch. The board guide on the connector body also serves as a locating feature for pick-and-place alignment during hand or wave-solder assembly.
