The 50 positions and 0.100" pitch match the most common edge-card footprint — if your PCB has 50 gold fingers on 0.100" centers, this connector fits without a board respin. The 0.062" card thickness is the standard 1/16" PCB; a thicker or thinner board will not seat properly in the slot. The staggered solder tails break out the rows for easier through-hole soldering and inspection.
