Press-Fit D-Sub, 9 Positions, DE-9 Shell
The TE Connectivity 5745455-2 is a 9-position D-Sub receptacle from the AMPLIMITE HDP-20 series, in the DE-9 shell size — the standard layout for RS-232 serial ports and industrial control interfaces. It mounts vertically through a plated through-hole board but terminates via press-fit compliant pins, not solder. That means no wave solder process on the backplane: the pin presses into the plated hole and cold-welds to the barrel.
What the Press-Fit Termination Means for Assembly
Press-fit eliminates the thermal stress of wave soldering on the connector body and the board. The compliant pin deforms elastically inside the plated through-hole, creating a gas-tight joint.
Hardware Included: Female Screwlocks
The 5745455-2 ships with mating-side female screwlocks, 4-40 thread, installed on the flange. That saves a separate hardware line item on the BOM. The screwlocks pull the mating plug tight against the receptacle face, grounding the shell before the signal pins engage — critical for EMC in a serial data link.
ROHS3 compliant per the current TE Connectivity compliance declaration.
How the 5745455-2 Differs from the 5745455-1
The 5745455-1 is the same DE-9 receptacle with tin-plated contacts instead of gold. Gold plating on the 5745455-2 gives higher corrosion resistance and a longer mating cycle life — the right call for a connector that gets unmated and remated in the field. Tin is adequate for a one-time install in a clean environment. Both are active, both use press-fit termination, both carry the female 4-40 screwlocks. Choose by the duty cycle: gold for serviceable connections, tin for permanent harnesses.
