DE-9 Receptacle with Board Lock and Ground Strap
The TE Connectivity 5747836-6 is a 9-position D-Sub receptacle in the AMPLIMITE HD-20 series, using the DE-9 shell layout (shell size 1). This is the standard 9-pin female connector often called a DB9, though the correct shell designation is DE-9. It is a right-angle through-hole solder termination part, designed to mount at the edge of a PCB with the connector axis parallel to the board plane. Key features include a board lock for SMT reflow and vibration retention, plus an integrated ground strap that provides a low-impedance path from the connector shell to the PCB ground plane. The flange carries a female screwlock with 4-40 thread on the mating side, accepting standard D-sub jackscrews.
The gold layer prevents oxide buildup on the signal path, keeping contact resistance stable over the connector's service life.
Mounting and PCB Layout
This dimension determines the board edge clearance needed when the connector is mated. The steel shell with tin plating provides EMI shielding when mated with a corresponding male D-sub plug. The ground strap connects the shell to a PCB pad, bleeding shield currents before they reach the signal pins.
