Board Lock and Grounding for Reliable Assembly
Three features on this plug address the mechanical and electrical realities of a right-angle D-sub. The ground strap and grounding indents on the steel shell create a low-impedance path from the cable shield to the board ground plane, which matters for keeping radiated emissions in check on a cable that runs outside the enclosure. The shell itself is steel with tin plating, giving it the stiffness to survive repeated mating cycles without deforming the mounting flange.
Position Count and the DE-9 Shell
The 9-position count uses the DE-9 shell size, which is the smallest standard D-sub footprint. The sibling 5747840-1 is the same AMPLIMITE HD-20 right-angle plug but with 15 positions on the DA-15 shell — the same pitch and contact design, just a longer shell to fit the extra six pins. The 9-position version fits a standard DB-9 PCB footprint; the 15-position version needs a longer keep-out zone on the board.
