44-Position High-Density D-Sub Housing — What You Are Ordering
The TE 5748636-1 is a 44-position, 3-row D-Sub receptacle housing from the AMPLIMITE HDP-22 series, designed for high-density signal interconnects where panel space is tight. It uses shell size 3 (DB, B) high-density layout — the same shell footprint as a standard 25-position D-sub, but packing 44 contacts into that space. The housing is free hanging (in-line), with an unthreaded flange for panel mounting with screws or jackposts. The steel shell is tin-plated for EMI shielding, and the black glass-filled nylon body provides the mechanical strength and UL-rated flammability for equipment inside an enclosure.
This is a housing only. The 5748636-1 does not include crimp contacts — you order them separately as the matching AMPLIMITE HDP-22 female crimp terminals (typically 22-28 AWG signal contacts). A common BOM mistake is ordering just the housing and expecting a ready-to-wire assembly. Plan for both parts in your procurement.
Shielded Shell and Mating Compatibility
The steel shell with tin plating provides a continuous ground path when mated with the corresponding AMPLIMITE HDP-22 high-density plug (male) housing. The unthreaded flange accepts standard D-sub hardware (4-40 or M3 screwlocks/jackposts) for panel mounting. For field replacement, the housing is a straightforward swap: depopulate the old contacts, insert into the new housing, and re-terminate.
