Two-Piece Shielded Backshell for AMPLIMITE HD-20 D-Subs
The TE Connectivity 5748676-3 is a two-piece backshell from the AMPLIMITE HD-20 series, designed to terminate and shield round cable at the rear of a D-sub connector. It accommodates 25-position D-sub connectors with Shell Size B, and is also listed as compatible with HD44-position connectors sharing that shell size. The housing is die-cast zinc alloy with a nickel over copper plating, delivering EMI/RFI shielding for the cable termination point. Assembly hardware is included — the backshell ships with 4-40 mating screws and grommets, so the BOM line for the cable overmold or boot is covered by this single part number.
Shielding and Grounding Path
The zinc alloy shell with nickel over copper plating creates a continuous conductive path from the D-sub connector's metal shell to the cable braid or foil shield. When the backshell is clamped and the 4-40 screws are torqued, the shield current from the cable is bled to the connector shell — and from there to the chassis ground through the D-sub's mounting hardware. This is the standard grounding scheme for shielded D-sub cable assemblies in industrial control, instrumentation, and data communication links.
