What This Backshell Does
The TE Connectivity AMPLIMITE 5748678-5 is a two-piece plastic backshell for D-subminiature connectors, designed to fit 50-position standard D-sub shells and also HD-78 position connectors sharing the D shell size. It provides strain relief and cable management for round cable with a straight 180° cable exit, and includes pre-installed 4-40 mating screws and assembly grommets. The black ABS housing is unshielded, suited for general-purpose signal cable dressing where EMI shielding is not required.
Hardware and Fit
The backshell ships with the 4-40 mating screws already assembled, so you don't need to source them separately. The grommets are also included, which help seal the cable entry against dust and provide basic strain relief. The two-piece clamshell design snaps around the cable and the D-sub connector, then the screws lock it together. Because it's a 50-position backshell, it matches the shell size D footprint — the same backshell also fits connectors that use the same shell size, which is useful if your BOM mixes standard and high-density D-subs.
