Backshell for 26-Position D-Sub — 75° Shielded Exit
The TE Connectivity 5749609-1 is a two-piece backshell from the AMPLIMITE.050 III series, designed to fit standard 26-position D-subminiature connectors. It provides a shielded enclosure for the cable-to-connector termination, with a 75° cable exit angle that routes the cable bundle at an oblique angle from the connector axis — useful for panel-mount layouts where a straight or 90° exit would interfere with adjacent components or the enclosure wall. The shell is zinc with a nickel over copper plating, giving it RFI/EMI shielding continuity when mated to a compatible D-sub connector. A spring lock on the backshell halves snaps together without separate screws, and the package includes assembly hardware and a strain relief clamp to secure the round cable jacket.
Cable Exit and Routing
The 75° cable exit is the defining mechanical feature of this backshell. It is not a straight-through (180°) or right-angle (90°) exit — the cable leaves the connector at a 75° angle relative to the connector mating axis. This split the difference between a straight exit and a right-angle exit, giving the harness builder a routing option that keeps the cable bundle close to the panel plane without a hard 90° bend.
Shielding and Plating
This is a shielded backshell — the zinc shell with nickel over copper plating provides a conductive enclosure around the termination area. When the backshell is installed on a shielded D-sub connector and the cable shield is terminated to the backshell, it completes the shield path from the cable braid through the connector shell to the equipment chassis.
Included Hardware and Assembly
The backshell ships with assembly hardware and a strain relief clamp — no separate jack-screws, slide-latches, or cable clamps need to be ordered. The spring lock on the two halves snaps together and holds the shell closed without tools. The strain relief clamps around the round cable jacket to take the pull load off the individual wire terminations inside the connector.
