The gold flash contact finish on phosphor bronze provides corrosion resistance for routine mating cycles; for applications requiring thousands of mates, a thicker gold plating would be preferable, but for typical field-service or bench-test connections this is adequate. The steel shell with tin plating provides basic EMI shielding and mates with the standard D-sub grounding indents.
