What This Coding Key Does
The TE Connectivity 6-100526-1 is a coding key for the Z-PACK series of backplane connectors. It's not a signal-carrying connector itself but a polarization accessory that prevents mismating of connector pairs in a backplane system. The steel blue color is the visual identifier for this specific keying position. In a Z-PACK backplane, multiple connector modules sit side-by-side. Without coding keys, a daughtercard could be inserted into the wrong slot or rotated 180 degrees. This key physically blocks the mating of a connector pair that doesn't carry the matching key cutout, enforcing the correct slot-to-card mapping during assembly and field service.
