8P8C Shielded Jack for Press-Fit Backplane Assembly
The TE Connectivity 6116202-2 is a vertical modular jack with 8p8c (RJ45, Ethernet) contact arrangement, shielded for EMI containment and rated Cat5 for 100 MHz signal paths.
Press-Fit Termination and Board Guide
The press-fit tail eliminates the solder joint as a failure mode — no cold joint, no void, no flux residue under the shield. The board guide aligns the compliant pins to the PTH pattern during insertion, which matters when you're pressing a row of jacks into a dense backplane and can't afford a bent pin. The vertical orientation keeps the cable exit perpendicular to the board, saving edge real estate compared to a right-angle jack that overhangs the board edge.
Cat5 Rating and Shielding in Industrial Temperature Range
Rated Cat5, the 6116202-2 supports 100 MHz signaling — enough for 100BASE-TX and 1000BASE-T in most industrial Ethernet drops. The shielded shell bleeds common-mode noise to chassis ground before it reaches the magnetics, which is the difference between a link that stays up next to a VFD drive and one that drops packets.
Contact Finish and Housing Construction
The thermoplastic housing carries no LED, so if your design needs link/activity indicators, plan for an external LED or a different order code.
