Eurocard DIN 41612 Plug for Backplane I/O
The 650946-5: This C/2 (1/2 C) style variant populates only the outer rows, leaving the centre row unloaded — a cost-effective choice when the middle row circuits aren't needed in the design.
The 650946-5 has 48 contact positions in the moulding but only 32 are populated with pins. The unloaded positions are simply empty cavities — the connector body still takes up the same board footprint and the same mating face as a fully populated 48-position version, but you only pay for the 32 circuits you actually route. This is common in Eurocard designs where the backplane standard specifies a full grid but the application only needs two of the three rows. If your BOM calls for 48 circuits, this part won't fill them; look for a fully loaded 48-position Eurocard plug instead.
Operating Range and Environment
The glass-filled polyester insulation resists moisture absorption and maintains dimensional stability across that range. The right-angle orientation and through-hole solder tails give a mechanically robust mount that withstands vibration in rack-mounted equipment.
