Crimp socket for Multimate III+ housings
Rated for 16-18 AWG stranded wire, the 66101-3 uses a stamped-and-formed crimp barrel that accepts the conductor and insulation simultaneously. The crimp termination is the standard for field-replaceable contacts in the Multimate III+ system — no soldering, no special tooling beyond the correct TE crimp die. For a harness builder, the wire gauge range is the first fit check: 16 AWG fills the barrel for maximum pull-force, 18 AWG gives a slightly lighter crimp that still meets retention in the housing.
Gold at this thickness handles the mating cycle count expected in equipment that gets disconnected and reconnected during service — think power supplies, industrial control panels, or test equipment where the contact pair sees dozens of cycles over its life. Tin would gall and oxidize under the same duty.
