Wire Gauge and Crimp Tooling
This socket accepts 20-24 AWG stranded wire — the range covers the common signal and moderate-power circuits in industrial and automotive harnesses. The stamped construction means the crimp barrel deforms predictably with a standard Mil-spec or OEM-style crimp tool; the TE recommended tooling for this contact family is a hand-crimp frame with the appropriate die set for the wire size. Without the correct crimp height, the retention in the housing drops below the pull-out spec.
The Multimate III+ series is TE's stamped-contact line used across multiple connector housings — rectangular industrial, circular CPC, and some sealed automotive styles. The 66105-1 is the socket half; the matching pin is the 66105-1 (same wire range, same gold plating). Both use the same crimp tooling and insert into the same housing cavities. The stamped format keeps per-contact cost below a machined terminal while still delivering the 30.0µin gold layer for field-service reliability.
