Contact Identity and Series Fit
The stamped construction keeps per-contact cost low while maintaining the dimensional consistency needed for high-density D-sub housings.
The 24-28 AWG wire range is narrow — the contact barrel is sized for these gauges, and using a wire outside this range will not achieve the specified crimp tensile strength. For 24 AWG, the insulation diameter must also be checked against the rear bell mouth of the contact to avoid insulation crimp interference. The crimp tooling should be the TE-certified hand tool or an approved pneumatic applicator for the AMPLIMITE HDP-20 contact family.
Gold Flash — What It Means for Duty
The gold flash finish (a thin gold layer over the base nickel underplate) is standard for stamped contacts in the AMPLIMITE HDP-20 series. Flash gold provides good corrosion resistance for the initial mating and a few subsequent cycles, but it wears through faster than a thicker gold plate (e.g., 30 µ"). For applications requiring frequent disconnect-reconnect in the field, consider a contact with a heavier gold plating. For a one-time install in a controlled environment, the flash gold is adequate.
