What the Gold Plating Means for Your Application
That thickness — well above a flash plating — is specified for applications where the contact sees regular disconnect/reconnect cycles, such as panel-mounted connectors in test equipment or modular power distribution. Gold also prevents oxide formation that would increase contact resistance in low-voltage signal circuits. For a one-time crimp-and-forget harness in a benign environment, a tin-plated contact would suffice; this part is chosen when the mating duty or environment demands the extra margin.
Crimp Termination and Wire Prep
The 66563-8 uses a stamped-and-formed crimp barrel sized for 20-24 AWG stranded or solid wire. The wire strip length and crimp height are detailed in the Multimate III+ application specification. Using the wrong tool or wire gauge outside the 20-24 AWG range risks an intermittent connection or terminal pull-out under cable strain.
