It accepts 24-28 AWG wire and terminates via crimp.
This socket is rated for 24-28 AWG stranded wire. The stamped construction keeps per-contact cost down for high-volume harness builds; the trade-off against a machined contact is lower current capacity, but for signal-level D-sub circuits the stamped contact is the standard. The crimp barrel is designed for a standard AMPLIMITE HDP-20 crimp tool — the applicator and die set are widely available on the secondary tooling market.
The 66683-2 mates with AMPLIMITE HDP-20 pin contacts and fits HDP-20 D-sub connector housings.
