8-Position IDC Plug for 28 AWG Ribbon Cable
The red housing is free-hanging (in-line) and includes a feed-through feature for daisy-chaining multiple connectors along the same cable.
IDC Termination and Wire Compatibility
This plug terminates 28 AWG ribbon cable using insulation displacement contacts (IDC) — no stripping or soldering required. The 2-row, 0.059" (1.50mm) row spacing matches standard 0.100" pitch ribbon cable with alternating ground/signal conductors. The feed-through feature allows the cable to pass through the connector body, enabling multiple plugs on the same cable run for multi-drop configurations. Tin contacts are rated for limited mating cycles (typically under 25 mates) and are best suited for permanent or semi-permanent harness assemblies where the connector is not frequently disconnected.
Mating and System Fit
The 7-215083-8 mates with Micro-MaTch receptacles that have 8 positions in a 2-row layout at 0.100" pitch. The matching receptacle (e.g., TE 1-226733-4) uses female socket contacts and a detent lock for retention. The free-hanging design means both plug and receptacle are in-line connectors — no PCB mounting on this half. For board-to-wire applications, the receptacle mounts to the PCB and the plug terminates the ribbon cable. The red housing provides visual identification in harness assemblies, reducing wiring errors during production.
