This socket is rated for 22-26 AWG stranded wire. The crimp barrel accepts the full conductor bundle; the insulation support crimp grabs the jacket. For a 22 AWG build use the standard HDP-20 crimp tool (frame plus positioner) — the die set matches the barrel dimensions so the crimp height lands inside the pull-force spec. On 26 AWG the wire is at the small end of the range; check that the stripped length and conductor twist are consistent or the terminal may not seat fully in the housing cavity.
Mating and housing fit
The 745253-2 mates with the standard AMPLIMITE HDP-20 pin contact (base number 745254). It inserts into any HDP-20 D-sub housing — the socket cavity geometry is identical across the series from 9 to 50 positions. The stamped construction means the contact beam deflects on insertion and recovers; the 30.0µin gold wipes the pin surface on each mate, keeping contact resistance stable. No secondary lock is required beyond the housing's own retention tines.
