What This 16-Position DIP Header Does
It mounts vertically through a PCB on 0.100" row spacing, with the board-side pin pattern matching standard DIP socket footprints. The feed-through feature allows ribbon cable to pass through the header for daisy-chain wiring — useful when multiple headers share a single cable run.
Pitch and Footprint — Two Pitches in One Connector
This header uses two different pitches: 0.050" (1.27mm) between cable conductors and 0.100" (2.54mm) between board-side pins. The cable pitch matches standard 0.050" rainbow ribbon cable, while the board-side pitch matches the 0.100" grid of a DIP socket or through-hole pattern. The row spacing is 0.100" (2.54mm). That means the footprint on the PCB is a 16-pin DIP layout — two rows of 8 pins on 0.100" centers — but the cable it accepts is the finer-pitch 0.050" ribbon. Don't assume a single pitch; the cable and board sides are different.
The IDC termination accepts 26-28 AWG stranded wire or 26-30 AWG solid wire. The connector comes as a loaded assembly — the contacts are pre-installed in the housing, ready for cable insertion and mass termination with an IDC press. No separate crimp terminals to buy; the cable is pressed directly into the insulation-displacement slots. The feed-through feature means the cable can exit the header on both sides, allowing multiple headers to be daisy-chained on one ribbon without cutting and terminating each end separately.
