DIP Header for Ribbon Cable — IDC Termination
The TE Connectivity AMP-Latch 746613-1 is an 8-position DIP header designed for mass-termination to 0.050" pitch ribbon cable via IDC.
Board-Side Fit and Routing
The 0.100" board-side pitch and dual-row layout place the pins in two rows of four. The 0.300" row spacing is wider than a typical IC DIP, so verify the PCB land pattern matches the AMP-Latch footprint. Through-hole mounting provides a solder joint for the IDC cable strain.
Cable Termination and Wire Range
IDC termination means the ribbon cable is pressed onto the insulation-displacement contacts in one operation — no stripping, no crimping. The specified wire range is 28 AWG stranded or 26-30 AWG solid for the ribbon cable. The 0.050" cable pitch is the standard for 28 AWG rainbow ribbon cable. For a solid build, match the cable to the 28 AWG stranded spec; the 26 AWG solid end of the range gives a tighter grip in the IDC slot but requires a stiffer cable.
