Grounding Indents and Shell Continuity
The grounding indents on the shell are a feature not all D-subs carry — they create a metal-to-metal contact point between the plug and receptacle shell before the signal pins mate, bleeding shield current and reducing EMI coupling into the cable. For an installation where the cable shield is terminated to the backshell, these indents maintain a low-impedance path to the chassis ground through the mating half.
