Wiring it right: crimp setup for 26-30 AWG
The 26-30 AWG range is the first thing to confirm on the harness line — the wrong wire gauge will either strip out of the crimp barrel (too thin) or fail to bottom out in the insulation grip (too thick). The crimp height and die selection must match the exact wire gauge within that range; a contact set for 26 AWG won't grip 30 AWG reliably. The tin-plated brass barrel accepts the stripped conductor, and the crimp tool's anvil and indentor must be set to the manufacturer's spec for the wire gauge used. Section a sample after setup — if the wire strands don't fully fill the crimp barrel's width, the pull-out force will be below spec.
This pin contact loads into the pin-side cavity of a Mini-Universal MATE-N-LOK receptacle housing. The housing's primary latch holds the contact in place, and a secondary TPA (terminal position assurance) retainer locks the terminal shoulder to prevent back-out under vibration. The mating receptacle header has matching pin cavities that accept this contact's mating end. The tin finish on the contact's mating surface is adequate for the rated current in dry indoor environments; if the assembly will see high humidity or repeated thermal cycling, consider whether the tin-to-tin interface will develop oxide over time.
