What This Backshell Does
The TE Connectivity CHAMP 787229-1 is a two-piece backshell and cover designed to terminate and shield the cable bundle exiting a 68-position CHAMP connector. It routes the round cable at a 180° straight exit, keeping the cable run in line with the connector axis rather than bending it at an angle. The metal shell provides continuous shielding from the connector body through the cable clamp, while the spring lock holds the two halves together without tools — a field-friendly detail when the connector lives inside a cabinet or on a panel where screw access is tight.
Construction and Fit
The shell is metal (steel/plastic cover), black in colour, and ships in bulk packaging. It fits over the mating end of the CHAMP connector and clamps the round cable jacket, providing strain relief and a shielded transition. The 180° exit means the cable comes straight out the back — useful when the connector is mounted on a panel or board edge and the harness runs perpendicular to the face. The spring lock snaps the two cover halves together; no separate hardware is needed for the cover closure, though the backshell still relies on the connector's own mounting ears or screws for panel attachment.
